Core Competencies

In addition to the duties required by law, a township clerk will benefit from developing skills and knowledge in several core areas:  Township Clerk Core Competencies (PDF)

Notary Public

A clerk is not required by law to be a notary public, but many clerks or other township personnel find it to be a practical service. As an elected official, a clerk cannot be required to be a notary, but a township board could require a township employee to be a notary as part of a job description. A surety bond is required as part of the notary application.
